Tony left the the power generation industry in 2015 after 38 years where he held a number of management roles within operations, engineering and maintenance in a major UK Nuclear Generation organisation.
During his career Tony held posts as Head of Maintenance at two Nuclear Power Stations and Operations Manager at a Nuclear Decommissioning site.
The last five years of his career was as Head of Human Performance/Behavioural Safety Strategy. He was responsible for generating and driving an error reduction programme UK wide, covering ten Nuclear sites and two headquarter establishments. This role entailed providing specialist advice on error prevention techniques, producing standards and guidance, developing and delivering training/coaching to workers, the supply chain and senior managers up to board level, in all aspects of Human Performance/Behavioural Safety. Particular focus being on worker observation programmes such as Task Observation/Behavioural Safety Observations.
As Head of Human Performance Strategy, he was an active member of the UK Human Performance Forum which involved contributing as part of working groups to UK Human Performance Standards as published by the National Skills Academy Nuclear (NSAN). Additionally, he participated in World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO Paris office) Human Performance support missions to Nuclear plants in China, France, Finland and Spain. He also was a member of the regulator led (ONR) Safety Culture network. All the roles involved significant regulator interface covering safety cases, event investigations, Human Performance and safety culture.
Tony is very much a people person and has presented at a number of safety & WANO conferences on Human Performance. He delights in sharing his expertise and experience to groups and organisations to promote the business benefits of error management techniques.
